Horror/Monster News Update

Boy oh boy have I been busy!

But here are a few interesting tidbits to keep you all up date...

Today is Stephen King's 59th Birthday, so Happy Birthday!

Dread Central has posted a couple of kick ass interviews...
You can listen to them or just read the transcripts:

George A. Romero talks about "Diary of the Dead"

Sara Karloff talks about her father's legacy as well as new DVD releases of his films, including Boris Karloff: Icons Of Horror Collection.

Next tuesday Sept. 26th will see the release of the 75th Anniversary Edition DVDs of Universal's "Frankenstein" and "Dracula." More info is available here.

And Speaking of Romero, this past wednesday saw the release of "George Romero's Night Of The Living Dead: Back From The Grave" and I have to tell you I was sadly disappointed, the comic was basically a short story followed by several full page reproductions of the upcoming art for the NOTLD prequel comic that is in the works. The comic comes off as what should have been a Free Comic Day freebie, but instead took $3.00 of my hard earned cash... such a shame too because it has sort of soured me on spending money on the prequel they tried so hard to promote.

In EVEN MORE George Romero news, The Horror Channel will be presenting 'An Evening with George Romero' Tuesday September 26th immediately following their broadcast of their hit series "Shadow Falls" This is a one hour session with the legendary director recorded live at the Capitol Center for the Arts in Concord, NH.

Jeebus! With all this Romero news hitting the interwebs this week you'd think it was HIS birthday!

And speaking of Shadow Falls, just in case you missed The Horror Channel's online series "Shadow Falls" you can still get caught up by watching the Prelude and Episode 1 right now.

The Ghouligans now have a DVD for sale, be sure to check it out!

Keith Milford of Old Haunts fame has recently updated Sir Graves Ghastly.com, adding a news section of Interviews and Articles, check that out here.

And Jason from Scar Stuff has been making a slew of updates recently, warming up for the Holiday Season! Be sure to pay him a visit!

Sally

Sally from Henry Selick's 1993 film "The Nightmare Before Christmas"
post.

I almost didn't make it, I have been so busy painting all kinds of goodies for October that I almost missed this weeks post. That plus the fact that Sally DID NOT want to be drawn, wow, if you had only seen the early sketches!

Anyway, here she is, now sadly I am going to have to redo Jack, because Sally is SO much better then he is now.

Sally is a long overdue request by Marnie from the Rue Mortuary

Be sure to look for the 3-D rerelease next month, October 30th!

Although not related to the actual 3-D release, grab you anagylph glasses and head on over to Joel Fletcher's site, Joel was an animator on "Nightmare Before Christmas" and took advantage of the opportunity to take some amazing 3-D pictures of the animation setups. Beautiful Stuff!

The Well Dressed Alien

The Well Dressed Alien As portrayed by John F. Goff in John Carpenter's CLASSIC 1988 film "They Live."

I've been a huge fan of John Carpenter since I was a wee monster lad, in fact he was the first filmmaker I followed, while other kids where off singing the praises of Spielberg, I was sitting with my jaw hanging open watching "The Thing." And although he has admittedly had a dry streak for a while now, I still hold out, knowing that he will one day pull out the stops and create another amazing/terrifying film... I know it the same way I know that Stephen King and Prince aren't washed up yet.

John Carpenter, wrote the screenplay to "They Live" under the pseudonym "Frank Armitage". The movie is based on the short story "Eight O'Clock in the Morning" by Ray Nelson. Which can be read here.

Now, where did I leave all my bublegum?

An interesting piece of trivia:
Near the end of the film, several guards can be seen using odd scanner devices. These are actually PKE Meter props from the film Ghostbusters unaltered.

Horror/Monster News Update

Greeting boys and ghouls,
A quick update about things going on in the Monster/Horror world.

I for one have been extremely busy, preparing a massive amount of goodies for your trick or treat baskets, this upcoming Halloween season will feature a virtual flood of new portraits as well as the premiere of ScOttRa Monster Art radio! That's right media whores that we are we are jumping on the podcast bandwagon. So be sure to check back often starting October 1st.

In other news, The Nefarious Johnny Refund continues to countdown "The Dreadful 69." Be sure to check it out and LEAVE COMENTS, let him know he got it right or why he didn't!

This Tuesday September 12th at 9:00 pm eastern time marks the debut of The Horror Channels original series "Shadow Falls" the first original online horror series. The eight episode first season will culminate on Halloween night. Be sure to check it out. In order to watch you will have to register for a free account at The Horror Channel and have Windows Media Player installed. I checked out their showing of "Night of the Living Dead" this past weekend, and was amazed at how well the technology involved works, the picture was crystal clear, and the ability to chat with other horror fans while watching a classic was great, they were one of the friendliest group of people you could hope to find on the interwebs. I can't wait to check out "Shadow Falls."

Also, I'm probably way late on this, but if you haven't see the video to Naked Ape's "Fashion Freak" then be sure to click here. I'm not sure life gets any sweeter then a Hawt Zombie Chick car wash.

Over at the Pee Money blog, my blood brother Phill Weber has posted his chilling new story entitled "Doctor Lamb," be sure to stop in and give it a read. you won't regret it!

Also, AMC has sent out a press release about this years Monsterfest. Check it out at the Rue Morgue forum.

And just in case you missed it, the new issue of 1313 Magazine is now available, and comes HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
Check it out here.

Dimension Films announced that October 19, 2007 will be the release date for Rob Zombie's new version of the classic 1978 horror film "Halloween." I'm keeping my fingers crossed, I wasn't originally a big fan of "House of 1,000 Corpses" but I was surprised at the level of filming he showed in "The Devil's Rejects," And I'm a big fan of his comic "Spookshow International," so I'm hoping he can pull the "Halloween" franchise out of the toilet.

And lastly but not leastly, Friday October 13th 2006 is the "Horror Day of Action," a campaign to inspire all lovers of the horror genre to reach out to the world on Friday, Oct. 13, 2006. The idea caught fire and spread to every area of horror, from haunted house operators to videogame designers to movie makers and writers. But the most important and basic ingredient of Horror Day is each fan's participation.

On Oct. 13, fans are asked to buy a horror book, give away a horror book, rent a horror video, read ghost stories to children, host an art show, or talk to the nearest library, bookstore, video store, newspaper and to call your local radio station. Be sure to check out The Official Horror Day Myspace Page for more information.

If you have news or events you'd like to announce please drop us a line at news@scottra.com and we will help spread the word.

Johhny Refund's Crypt

Great news!

After much coaxing, long time friend and coconspirator Johnny Refund is back on the internets!

I have managed to convince him to post his list of "The Dreadful 69," 69 must see horror films. And although the list itself is a couple years old, it still has more then enough relevance to be worth your time.

There will be one post a day counting down to Halloween...

Be sure to stop by, say hi, and leave your comments about the films in question. And if you run a site, if you could add a link to his site it would be much appreciated.

Johnny Refund's Crypt:
http://johnnyrefund.blogspot.com

Now if only Johnny and I can convince our mutual friend and brilliant Horror writer Bob Stevens to dip his wick back into cyberspace, the world would be a better place for all you ghastly boys and ghouls.

Shaun

Shaun as portrayed by Simon Pegg in Edgar Wright's 2004 classic "Shaun of the Dead."

What can be said about Shaun of the Dead that hasn't been said before? Finally a movie that lives up to the hype.

Loads of fun can still be had at the official site for "Shaun of the Dead."

I can't wait for the release of "Hot Fuzz." Written by Simon and Edgar, and starring Simon and his Shaun costar Nick Frost.

An interesting piece of trivia:

I the movie Shaun and Ed are playing the game "TimeSplitters 2," Which resulted in the creators of "TimeSplitters 3: Future Perfect", adding a zombie character who asks "Do I have red on me?" when the player selects him.
